About Us
At Near, we help top talent in Latin America find remote roles with US companies. Our mission is to create better lives by fostering a remote work culture that transcends borders.
About Our Client
Our client is a US-based technology company that provides a managed network service for multi-tenant spaces, with a core customer base of co-working and flex-space operators. They take care of the network and internet experience end to end, one of the most critical services in any workspace, so operators and their members can work without interruptions.
As the company grows, they are building an “intelligent network”: a platform that turns the large volume of network and member-activity data they already collect into insights and automated actions, both for their internal network engineers and for the operators who run these spaces.
About the Role
We are looking for a Data/AI Engineer to establish the company’s data and AI capability from the ground up. As the first data specialist on a team of software and network engineers, you will own everything that happens to data from the moment it lands on the platform to the moment an insight reaches an operator or an automated action is taken on a network.
This is a hands-on, long-term role for an experienced generalist who is comfortable modeling data, writing production code, reasoning about statistics, and building with large language models. You’ll help the team decide what to build and how: which statistical models are needed, when machine learning or AI agents make sense, and when a simpler approach is enough.
The ideal candidate is a true owner who joins as a full team member. They challenge ideas, point out what’s missing, do what they say they’ll do, and aren’t afraid to experiment and learn from mistakes.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and run the pipelines and data models that turn raw network and platform telemetry into reliable, well-defined data
- Implement core business metrics (such as occupancy and utilization) with the Product Manager, so they mean the same thing everywhere in the product
- Build detection and prediction capabilities that identify anomalies and forecast problems before operators or their members notice them
- Build AI capabilities that diagnose issues, explain them in plain language, and recommend or take remediating action, and own the evaluation that proves they can be trusted
- Own the safeguards that govern automated actions on customer networks
- Deliver operator-facing analytics and insights into the product, designed for people who run workspaces rather than engineers
- Build privacy, data governance, and security requirements into the data and AI layer from the start
- Measure the impact of what ships and report results to company leadership
- Lead the adoption of AI tools across engineering and support workflows
What We’re Looking For
- 6+ years of experience across data engineering, analytics engineering, and applied machine learning or AI, including production ownership of systems other teams depend on
- Senior-level Python, writing production-quality, tested code (Django and Celery experience is a plus)
- Strong experience in applied statistics for time-series data: seasonal baselines, anomaly and change-point detection, and forecasting
- Hands-on experience with classical machine learning (scikit-learn or gradient boosting), including feature engineering and evaluation
- Experience shipping applications on LLM APIs with tool use and structured outputs, including evaluation harnesses (MCP experience is a plus)
- Advanced SQL and experience with PostgreSQL and time-series databases at scale (TimescaleDB preferred)
- Experience building streaming and batch data pipelines in the cloud (AWS preferred: Kinesis, Lambda, S3, ECS; Azure or GCP also valued)
- Strong data modeling for analytics, including dimensional modeling and semantic layers (dbt is a plus)
- Product sense: able to turn business needs into precise technical definitions and useful visualizations
- Experience delivering analytics into a customer-facing product (preferred)
- Familiarity with network or IoT telemetry such as SNMP, RADIUS, DHCP, or wireless data (preferred, not required)
- Familiarity with privacy and data governance requirements, including GDPR (a plus)
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field or equivalent professional experience
- Strong spoken and written English communication skills
