Job Description
About Us:
At Near, we help top talent in Latin America find remote roles with US companies. Our mission is to create better lives by fostering a remote work culture that transcends borders.
About Our Client:
Our client is a US-based software company that turns complex product, packaging, and sales data into environmental compliance reports. Its platform helps companies comply with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs and the Canadian Federal Plastics Registry, making regulatory reporting accurate, traceable, and easier to manage.
About the Role:
We are looking for a hands-on Full-Stack Engineer to take technical ownership of key areas of the client’s EPR and Canadian Federal Plastics Registry platform. You’ll work across the customer application, data pipelines, and reporting workflows, building tools that process messy, number-heavy data and turn it into reliable compliance reports.
The ideal candidate is a senior, autonomous engineer who uses AI coding tools every day, critically reviews what they produce, and proposes better solutions when blocked. You’ll work closely with the Engineering Lead and take on broader responsibility over time.
In your first 3 months, you’ll focus on a customer data-upload UI, a notification system (emails and regulatory updates), improvements to the product database UI, and support on new report pipelines.
This is a remote, full-time contractor role aligned with Pacific Time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and improve the customer application, data pipelines, and reporting workflows.
- Develop Python and AI-assisted tools for data processing, packaging classification, and fee calculations.
- Process, debug, and improve messy, number-heavy data (e.g., Excel files) independently.
- Design clean, maintainable architecture and keep results accurate and traceable.
- Build reusable foundations rather than one-off fixes.
- Work with the team to solve customer needs, explore new approaches, and take on broader responsibility over time.
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong experience with TypeScript, React/Next.js, Python, and SQL/PostgreSQL.
- Practical experience with data pipelines, cloud services, and production troubleshooting.
- Daily use of AI coding tools (e.g., Codex, Claude Code), ideally including agent skills, while validating and sanity-checking AI-generated code.
- Sound engineering judgment: keep solutions simple, question assumptions, and propose better approaches.
- Curiosity and the ability to learn unfamiliar domains quickly.
- Availability to work aligned with Pacific Time (Central Time acceptable for the right candidate).
- Nice to have: frontend/user-facing application experience with a good sense of UI, data visualization or internal tools that track data over time, and a background in finance or other data-heavy pipelines.
- Experience with compliance or reporting software is a plus; prior EPR expertise isn’t required.
Perks – What’s in It for You?
- Remote, full-time contractor position.
- Schedule: full-time, 40 hours per week, aligned with Pacific Time.
- Opportunity to take technical ownership of key areas of a growing compliance platform.
