Senior/Staff Full Stack Engineer
Remote (Latin America-based)
Compensation: $7,000-$10,000 USD/month, with flexibility for exceptional candidates
Full-time, international contractor
Tech stack: TypeScript, React, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Next.js
At Near, we connect top talent in Latin America with exciting remote opportunities at U.S.-based companies. Our mission is to create better lives by fostering a remote work culture that transcends borders.
About the Company:
Our client builds software for clinical trials. Its platform supports trial participants, clinics, research organizations, and sponsors. The company has a small, highly technical engineering team that moves quickly, uses AI extensively, and works on products with demanding security and compliance needs.
About the Role:
We're looking for a hands-on Senior or Staff Full Stack Engineer to own features end to end, from clarifying requirements and making architectural decisions to building the frontend, backend, and data model. You'll join one of three engineering pods and work closely with a product manager, designer, and engineering lead. This is an individual-contributor role for someone who can navigate ambiguity, unblock themselves, and think beyond the ticket to the product as a whole.
You Will:
Design, build, and maintain secure, reliable web applications and APIs for clinical trials.
Own frontend, backend, and data-model work for your projects. The balance varies by feature, but the role is genuinely full-stack.
Work with product and design to refine requirements, assess trade-offs, and turn detailed designs into production-ready features.
Make and clearly explain technical decisions, including their implications for scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
Use approved AI tools thoughtfully throughout development while retaining ownership of the code and outcomes.
Contribute to long-term architecture, code quality, and process improvements.
Share technical guidance and mentor teammates where your experience allows.
About You:
Your Background:
Strong hands-on experience building full-stack products, particularly with TypeScript and React. Capability and ownership matter more than a fixed number of years.
Deep practical knowledge of JavaScript/Node.js, APIs, and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
Experience owning substantial features or systems from requirements through delivery, not just implementing assigned tickets.
Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and how systems behave at scale.
Practical experience building secure, auditable software and making sound technical trade-offs.
Experience in a startup or small, fast-moving team where you've handled ambiguity and worked independently.
Excellent spoken and written English. You can explain complex technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
A product mindset, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to resolving problems.
Nice to Have:
Healthcare, clinical-trial, or other highly regulated industry experience.
Experience with Next.js, Vercel, Redis, Okta, or PostgreSQL at significant depth.
Experience building AI-powered features, including chat, voice, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
Experience with event-driven or microservice-oriented systems.
Tech-lead experience, including mentoring and making longer-term architectural decisions, while remaining hands-on with code.
Compensation & Benefits:
Compensation: There is no hard ceiling for an outstanding candidate; offers reflect demonstrated level and internal pay equity.
Benefits: Company-supplied MacBook Pro, unlimited PTO, and equity for the most senior roles.
