About the Company:
Fundable is a startup data platform that helps investors and other teams research companies, investors, funding activity, and people.
About the Role:
Fundable is looking for its first Senior Data Engineer to own its data platform from architecture through production. You’ll redesign an existing, largely sequential ingestion system so it can process data concurrently, support event-driven intake, and scale as data volumes grow. This is an architecture and hands-on engineering role—not a generalist software engineering or data science position.
You Will:
- Architect and operate pipelines that ingest provider APIs, webhooks, files, and web-scraped data, with rate limits and failure handling.
- Build orchestrated batch workflows and event-driven processing, including retries, dead-letter queues, and controlled replay.
- Preserve source payloads in Google Cloud Storage and use dbt to build raw, standardized, and curated data layers.
- Make processing recovery-safe through idempotent upserts, safe retries, and historical backfills.
- Define data contracts, automated quality checks, and monitoring for freshness and failures.
- Design PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and loading patterns that deliver reliable data to downstream products.
- Integrate provider enrichment and LLM-based structured extraction.
About You:
Your Background:
- Approximately 8+ years of experience, with substantial data engineering or data platform engineering work and ownership of production pipelines.
- Experience building a multi-source data platform from zero to one, including architecture, deployment, and ongoing operation.
- Production experience with workflow orchestration such as Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or Temporal; Airflow is preferred.
- Hands-on GCP and dbt experience.
- Experience with event-driven systems, messaging or task queues, asynchronous processing, and failure recovery.
- Strong Python, SQL, and PostgreSQL skills, including concurrent HTTP processing, data modeling, query optimization, and incremental loading.
- Hands-on web scraping experience using tools such as Scrapy, Playwright, Selenium, or Beautiful Soup, including concurrency, rate limits, and failure handling.
- Experience with data contracts, quality checks, traceability, and recovery-safe processing.
- Able to set the technical direction and take broad ownership rather than work from a predefined implementation plan.
Nice to Have:
- Startup or small-team experience with broad ownership.
- Experience at a company that builds or sells datasets.
- Entity resolution, LLM-based structured extraction, or company and people data enrichment.
- Familiarity with BigQuery and Dataform.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Compensation: $7,000–$10,000 USD/month, depending on experience.
- Benefits and employment arrangement: Not specified in the materials provided.
