At Near, we help top talent in Latin America find remote roles with US companies. Our mission is to create better lives by fostering a remote work culture that transcends borders.
As Controller, you will own the company's accounting function end to end: the monthly close, financial reporting, tax, accounts payable, treasury internal controls, and the external audit across our US and international entities. In this role, you will be the company's authority on the accuracy of its books and the single point of accountability for getting the numbers right, on time, every month.
You will lead a lean global team and are expected to be hands-on: reviewing the work, closing the gaps yourself when needed, and building the processes that enable the team to scale.
A successful Controller delivers a fast, clean close, builds repeatable processes and strong controls, develops their team, and earns the trust of finance and business leaders through strong execution and clear communication.
Month-End Close: Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across all entities. Set the close calendar, review journal entries and account reconciliations, and deliver accurate financials on a consistently shortening timeline.
Financial Reporting: Produce consolidated and entity-level financial statements in accordance with US GAAP, including management reporting packages, flux analysis, and reporting to the CFO, CEO, and ownership.
Consolidation and Intercompany: Own multi-entity and multi-currency consolidation, intercompany accounting and eliminations, and foreign currency translation for our US and international subsidiaries.
Revenue Accounting: Ensure subscription and services revenue is recognized correctly under ASC 606, including deferred revenue, contract review, and reconciliation of billing to the general ledger.
Tax Oversight: Lead the Manager of Global Tax and hold final review accountability for the tax provision (ASC 740), compliance calendar, and tax-related balances, ensuring tax is fully integrated into the close.
Team Leadership: Manage, coach, and develop the team. Set clear priorities, review their work, and hold the team accountable to quality and deadlines.
External Audit: Serve as the primary point of contact for the annual financial statement audit and any lender or statutory audits. Prepare the PBC list, manage timelines, and resolve audit findings.
Internal Controls: Design, document, and maintain internal controls over financial reporting, including segregation of duties, approval workflows, and balance sheet integrity.
Accounting Policy: Research and document technical accounting positions, maintain the company's accounting policies, and assess the impact of new standards.
Acquisitions and Integration: Lead accounting for acquisitions, including purchase price allocation, opening balance sheets, and integration of acquired entities onto our ledger, close process, and controls.
Cash and Treasury Support: Oversee cash reconciliations and bank relationships.
Budget and Forecast Support: Partner with FP&A to ensure actuals are reliable, properly classified, and ready to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
Process and Systems: Get the most out of your ERP system and related tools, automate manual work, and build documented, repeatable processes that reduce close time and dependence on any one person.
