Overview
The client's technology group runs a production platform that supports this growth. They're also commercializing it for other companies in the same space and designing the next-generation version.
You'll work across all three, owning features end to end, from the data model and backend services through the user interface. The data is complex and highly relational, and in this business accuracy and performance matter. This role suits an engineer who takes ownership without close management, communicates clearly, asks the right questions before writing code, and picks up new concepts and tools quickly in a flat, startup-style team.
Design, build, test and deploy Java and Spring Boot services and APIs, and the Angular interfaces that consume them, on both the existing production system and new development
Model, query and optimize complex relational data on Cloud SQL (MySQL and PostgreSQL) and BigQuery, writing and tuning advanced SQL
Build and maintain custom integrations with third-party systems (accounting software, diagnostics vendors, supplier gateways), working from vendor API documentation
Deploy, monitor, scale and troubleshoot containerized workloads on Kubernetes through CI/CD pipelines
Diagnose production issues and drive them to resolution, including being on call
Take part in architecture and design discussions, document decisions clearly, and contribute to the next-generation platform
Work with business stakeholders to turn operational needs into technical solutions
Give and receive peer code review and help uphold engineering standards
5+ years of professional software development experience
Hands-on experience building and maintaining production backend services and APIs with Java and Spring Boot
Experience delivering full-stack features, building Angular interfaces on top of those services
Experience writing and optimizing complex SQL (joins, stored procedures, performance tuning) and designing relational data models on MySQL and PostgreSQL
Experience deploying and operating applications on Kubernetes, using Argo CD and CI/CD pipelines to deploy, monitor and scale workloads
Production experience with GCP services such as Cloud Run, Cloud Storage and BigQuery, working with them through their SDKs
Experience designing and building integrations with external systems, with a solid grasp of ERP concepts, data federation, and gateway and interface architecture
Very strong spoken and written English, and the initiative to work with minimal supervision
Spanish (part of the support work is with Spanish speakers)
Google Cloud certification
Experience with ERP, WMS or logistics systems
Valid U.S. visa (required for initial onboarding and occasional travel)
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM US Central Time (covers 9 AM to 6 PM Eastern)
On-call rotation, including occasional weekends. You're told in advance when you'll be on standby.
Outcome-driven culture: if there's an outage or urgent issue, you stay until it's resolved. It's not frequent.
