This position is for our client, a leader in the solar panel industry, renowned for their expertise and commitment to excellence. We’re looking for a Lead MEP Engineer to lead the technical planning and execution of solar installation projects from system design and scope development through material planning and field support. This person will own the accuracy and quality of project scopes, system designs, and bills of materials while serving as a technical escalation point for complex field issues and providing guidance to engineers and field teams.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the development and review of detailed scopes of work for solar installations, including installation requirements, equipment, site constraints, and necessary modifications
- Create and review accurate bills of materials (BOMs), verifying equipment specifications, component compatibility, and quantities against approved designs and scopes
- Develop and review system designs and installation details, identifying and resolving technical gaps before work reaches the field
- Manage multiple projects from technical planning through installation completion, setting priorities, tracking milestones, and resolving issues affecting scope, schedule, materials, or quality
- Serve as the technical escalation point for complex electrical, installation, and structural issues, coordinating with qualified specialists when needed
- Provide technical guidance to installers and electricians during inspections, service calls, and complex field situations
- Coordinate with field teams and internal stakeholders to communicate design changes, clarify requirements, and maintain alignment throughout project execution
- Conduct occasional job site visits to verify conditions, support installations, and resolve escalated technical issues
- Establish and improve standards for system designs, scopes of work, BOMs, and technical handoffs to improve consistency and reduce installation errors
- Analyze recurring field issues and lead improvements to design practices, material planning, and installation workflows
- Review engineers’ work, mentor technical staff, and support training and development across engineering and field teams
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in engineering, electrical design, technical project management, or related roles
- Strong electrical or technical engineering background
- Required system design experience, ideally in electrical, solar, or construction-related projects
- Demonstrated ability to develop and review installation scopes and accurate BOMs using drawings, site information, and equipment specifications
- Experience managing multiple projects and coordinating technical work from planning through completion
- Experience leading technical work, reviewing designs, and mentoring engineers or technical staff
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and making sound decisions with incomplete field information
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical requirements and coordinate across engineers, field crews, and internal teams
- Proactive, organized, and comfortable setting priorities, managing changes, and resolving time-sensitive field issues
- Solar industry experience is preferred, but not required with a strong technical foundation
- Familiarity with electrical and building codes is a plus
- Availability: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM or 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM Central Time.
Preferred Background
- Degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Experience as a Senior Electrical Designer, Senior Electrical Engineer, Lead Engineer, or in a comparable technical system design role
- Experience establishing design standards, reviewing technical deliverables, and improving project execution
- Experience developing installation scopes and BOMs for electrical, solar, or construction projects
- Training or coursework in Solar PV systems is highly valued
- NABCEP certification or electrical license is a plus (not required)
- Prior experience in construction, solar, or home improvement industries is an advantage
