At Near, we connect talent in Latin America with remote opportunities at U.S.-based companies.
About the Company:
Our client is a U.S.-based company preparing for a SOC 2 audit. Its work involves contracts, internal policies, vendors, employees, and contractors. This role offers room to grow as the company develops its operations and compliance practices.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a Legal Operations and Compliance Specialist to own legal drafting and review while keeping operational, HR, and compliance work organized. You’ll work closely with the cofounders and collaborate across the team. You should be comfortable taking initiative, handling quick turnarounds, and being clear about when a question needs review by the company’s lawyer.
You Will:
- Draft and edit agreements and other legal documents, particularly MSAs and employment agreements.
- Review existing agreements and flag conflicting terms, missing items, and potential issues.
- Organize contracts, documents, Slack, and Google Workspace; maintain filing and tracking systems.
- Manage projects for the cofounders, including vendor research, outreach, and follow-through.
- Track tasks, deadlines, checklists, and follow-ups across the team.
- Communicate priorities, progress, blockers, and policy updates clearly.
- Support HR and compliance research, reinforce internal policies, and help prepare materials for a SOC 2 audit.
- Use AI tools regularly to work efficiently and automate repeatable tasks where appropriate.
About You:
Your Background:
- At least 3–5 years of relevant experience; more experience is welcome.
- Experience drafting and reviewing U.S. legal documents and contracts, and working with U.S. clients.
- Paralegal experience is highly preferred; a law license is not required.
- Excellent written English, clear spoken communication, and strong document-formatting skills. An accent is welcome; clarity is essential.
- Exceptional attention to detail and sound judgment about what you can handle independently versus what needs legal confirmation.
- Strong organization, task and timeline management, and the ability to keep work from falling through the cracks.
- Proactive, self-directed, and responsive when priorities change or quick turnarounds are needed.
Nice to Have:
- Experience spanning legal work, operations, HR, and compliance.
- Experience with Claude, connectors, and AI workflow automation.
- Familiarity with HubSpot or another CRM.
- Basic bookkeeping or accounting knowledge.
- Experience with professional services firms.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Compensation: $2,000–$3,000 USD/month, based on experience.
- Paid time off: Approximately 10–15 days annually plus local holidays, subject to confirmation.
- Growth opportunity: Potential to develop into an operations management role and lead a remote team.
