About the Role:
Join our client on their mission to run a lean, well-controlled finance function that supports smart decision-making across the business. We are looking for a Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function and be a key contributor to the Senior Management Team's decision-making.
This is a hands-on position with wide-ranging responsibilities: you will lead financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting, oversee the year-end audit and statutory compliance, and build the relevant, reliable management information the business needs to set targets, improve performance, and support decisions. You will also assist in direct liaison with the company's current and proposed accountants and auditors, including helping to select suitable candidates and taking part in the interview process.
Note: This is a remote, contractor role.
Key Responsibilities:
Support leadership in achieving company goals and objectives by challenging and supporting the development of business strategy.
Own, through the team and bookkeeper, all aspects of the company's financial reporting, including weekly, monthly, and annual reports, as well as monthly reporting packages for the US parent entity.
Prepare annual budgets and quarterly reforecasts, with detail supporting budgeted revenue, cost of sales, and overhead expenses.
Validate month-end reconciliations (trade debtors, trade creditors, VAT, bank) and produce month-end reporting packs for the parent company and internal use.
Manage the year-end audit process and preparation of statutory accounts, ensuring the company meets the timetable and compliance needs for audit completion, including supporting parent company auditor requests.
Oversee production of quarterly and annual VAT returns and submissions, P11d's, and review of Corporation Tax computations and returns.
Produce the monthly MI report for direct presentation to the Board of Directors, in a format that meets the needs of the company and its shareholders.
Establish relevant, reliable management information to set targets, improve performance, and aid decision-making, including review of stock systems, cost variances, and cash flow projections.
Build relationships and communicate with key stakeholders, including Directors, the parent company, the bank, auditors, accountants, and lawyers.
Oversee effective cash management and support the finance team's relationship with the company's bank, and safeguard business assets through appropriate financial controls.
What We're Looking For:
Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
Proven experience in a similar Financial Controller or senior finance role, preferably within the FMCG, food, or supplement industry.
Strong knowledge of IFRS, UK GAAP, and Companies House requirements.
Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Ability to think strategically and contribute to the development of business strategy.
Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Proficient English level.
