Controller
Remote (Latin America-based)
Compensation: $3,500–$5,000 USD/month
Tech Stack: ERP systems, Reach, Excel, Power BI, SQL, Tableau, Claude, ChatGPT.
At Near, we connect top talent in Latin America with exciting remote opportunities at U.S.-based companies. Our mission is to create better lives by fostering a remote work culture that transcends borders.
About the Company:
Our client is a well-established, U.S.-based company in the consumer products sector. With a multi-entity business structure and a collaborative, hands-on team, they are focused on strengthening financial operations, improving reporting accuracy, and using technology to drive smarter decision-making.
About the Role:
We’re looking for a Controller to lead and strengthen the accounting function in a hands-on, mid-sized manufacturing environment. You’ll be responsible for producing accurate financial reporting, improving financial processes, supporting the team, and partnering closely with company leadership.
This role requires someone who is technically strong, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable moving between strategic analysis and day-to-day accounting work.
You Will:
Produce accurate financial statements, reporting, and financial analysis.
Review trial balance data, investigate discrepancies, and ensure reports are accurate before distribution.
Support month-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
Lead and support the accounting team, including senior staff accountants.
Manage accounting needs across multiple legal entities and support smaller LLC year-end financials.
Oversee inventory accounting and ensure inventory transactions are accurately reflected in financials.
Build and improve financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis processes.
Work directly in the company’s ERP and reporting tools to create, update, and validate reports.
Partner with leadership to provide actionable financial insights and improve decision-making.
Support future M&A activity, including financial diligence related to acquisitions or divestitures.
Identify opportunities to use AI and automation tools to improve accounting workflows, audits, and financial analysis.
About You:
Your Background:
Manufacturing/inventory-based industry background — must understand how inventory transactions flow through the financials
Hands-on execution, not just high-level review — comfortable going into the system to create or correct journal entries directly
Solid grasp of monthly close, journal entries, and GL fundamentals; ability to catch and explain discrepancies before financials go out
Experience at a mid-sized company (roughly $25M–$300M in revenue); candidates from only very large corporates (e.g. Fortune 500-scale) or only very small companies (under ~$1M) are not a fit
Strong verbal communication in English — must be quick to grasp direction in fast-paced conversation, not just conversational proficiency
Stable tenure history — no pattern of roles under ~1–1.5 years; job-hopping is a disqualifier
Genuine curiosity/fluency with AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) applied to financial analysis and audit work — not just familiarity with buzzwords
Nice-to-haves
Experience with light M&A (buy-side or sell-side)
Multi-entity or small LLC year-end financial experience
Power BI, SQL, and/or Tableau experience
Experience with the specific reporting/analytics tool the company uses (Reach) — not required, but a plus
Prior experience managing or mentoring a small accounting team.
Compensation & Benefits:
Compensation: $3,500–$5,000 USD/month.
Benefits: 10 days of PTO
Holidays: 9 U.S. holidays
Schedule: Flexible start times, with at least 5 hours of overlap with PST business hours.
