About the Role
The Director of Technical Training will be responsible for building and leading the company’s technical training function from the ground up. This person will establish training standards, certification requirements, technical curricula, assessments, and development pathways for technical and field operations teams.
The role will initially focus on fulfillment and technical operations, working closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Safety, and other teams to connect training directly to field performance.
The ideal candidate should be decisive, technically credible, highly autonomous, and experienced in building training programs for field-based technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and lead the company’s technical training function, including its structure, processes, standards, and team.
- Develop technical training strategies, curricula, onboarding programs, assessments, and certification pathways.
- Define technical proficiency standards for installers, electricians, service technicians, field leaders, project coordinators, and other operational roles.
- Lead and develop the existing Training Manager and future technical training personnel.
- Create practical assessments, field observations, and skills-verification processes.
- Identify technical skill gaps using field performance, quality, safety, and operational data.
- Implement corrective training programs to improve productivity, quality, safety, and operational consistency.
- Develop technical manuals, job aids, videos, SOPs, and other scalable training resources.
- Establish train-the-trainer programs for managers, supervisors, and subject-matter experts.
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Safety, and other departments to ensure consistent technical standards.
- Provide executive leadership with recommendations regarding technical readiness, staffing needs, operational risks, and training performance.
- Build scalable training systems that can support multiple markets, products, and technical roles.
Must-Have Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in technical training, field operations, construction, engineering, workforce development, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience leading a technical training team, department, or large-scale operational learning program.
- Proven experience building training programs, curricula, assessments, and certification standards from the ground up.
- Strong understanding of field-based technical operations and hands-on workforce development.
- Experience managing technical teams and supporting operations across multiple locations.
- Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate independently, make decisions, and influence company-wide operational standards.
- Strong communication and executive presentation skills.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Availability to work with teams operating on U.S. Central Time.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience in telecommunications field operations or telecom construction.
- Background in solar installation/service, electrical, HVAC, utilities, infrastructure, construction, or home services.
- Experience training installers, electricians, technicians, field leaders, or other technical workforces.
- Experience building certification and skills-verification programs.
- Experience leading remote or geographically distributed teams.
- Familiarity with training technology, LMS platforms, digital learning tools, or technical workforce management systems.
