About Us: At Near, we help top talent in Latin America find remote roles with US companies. Our mission is to create better lives by fostering a remote work culture that transcends borders.
About Our Client: Our client is a private equity-backed, U.S.-based industrial services and equipment manufacturer serving the steel, aluminum, and broader metals and chemical-processing industries across North America. With 300+ employees and over $100M in annual revenue, they design, build, and service specialized industrial machinery — units valued between $500K–$800K each — used by some of the largest steel mills, aluminum producers, and chemical processors in the world. The company is actively investing in its data and AI capabilities, building a modern analytics platform on top of its ERP system to support smarter, faster decision-making across the business.
About the Role: Join our client on their mission to build a truly AI-first Finance function. We're looking for a Data & Automation Analyst who is genuinely excited about using AI every day — not just familiar with it — to join a lean, fast-moving Finance team and take ownership of the monthly business review, financial analysis, and process automation. You'll be handed business questions rather than specifications, expected to investigate, build the tooling that makes the next investigation faster, and push automation into every corner of the business you touch — starting in Finance, but not stopping there.
Note: This is a remote, contractor role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer business questions (e.g., margin, pricing, cash, inventory, and cost movements) using AI as your primary analytical tool.
- Investigate unexpected changes in financial metrics and identify their root cause.
- Automate the Monthly Business Review (MBR), extending it over time to include analysis and commentary, not just raw numbers.
- Build and maintain automations across Accounting and Finance, including month-end close support, reconciliations, and invoice/document handling.
- Extend automation efforts beyond Finance into other departments, such as Operations and Commercial.
- Verify and reconcile AI-generated analysis against source systems before sharing results with stakeholders.
- Maintain the reliability of the automations you build, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Partner with the Finance team on day-to-day reporting and ad hoc analysis.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What We're Looking For:
- Genuine, demonstrated enthusiasm for AI — you use it daily and have built something real with it, not just familiarity with common tools.
- Strong self-direction and comfort working with minimal oversight or specification.
- Comfort working with data, including advanced Excel skills; SQL or Python is a plus, not required.
- Business curiosity and a natural instinct to dig into why a number moved.
- A healthy skepticism toward AI-generated output — you verify before you trust.
- A track record of automating a manual process you personally identified.
- Proficient English level, written and spoken.
