Accounting Manager
About Us:
At Near, we help top talent in Latin America find remote roles with US companies. Our mission is to create better lives by fostering a remote work culture that transcends borders.
About Our Client:
Our client is a US-based real estate group operating across investment, lending, title services, and development, with a portfolio made up primarily of commercial real estate entities. They are building a new centralized, in-house accounting services team to support a growing number of entities, with plans to scale to 50+ over time.
About the Role:
Join our US client in building an accounting function from the ground up. We are looking for a Senior Accounting Manager to join their collaborative, fast-moving team and become the foundation of a centralized accounting group that will grow beyond ten people.
You will start hands-on, learning the entities, systems, and processes, then hire, train, and lead a team to take over routine accounting as it grows. You will work closely with the client's accounting leadership to build scalable processes and decide how best to structure the team and systems as new entities come on board. This is a rare chance to shape how an accounting department works from day one.
Note: This is a remote, contractor role. The schedule is based on Central Time (±1 hour of flexibility).
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for an initial group of entities, expanding to a portfolio of 50+ as the team grows.
- Own the close calendar and oversee full-cycle accounting, including month-end, quarterly, and year-end close.
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements hands-on at the start, then delegate routine work while reviewing output and handling complex issues.
- Recruit, train, and mentor junior accountants and clerks, building a team that grows beyond ten people.
- Document SOPs, training materials, and review checklists so new entities and team members can be onboarded quickly.
- Consolidate financials across multiple platforms (QuickBooks Online, Yardi, Rent Manager, Excel) for entities with complex ownership structures.
- Maintain tax-ready books and provide reconciled balances and supporting schedules to the tax team.
- Prepare bank and lender reporting, including covenant calculations, and flag potential issues early.
- Establish and monitor accounting controls, including approvals, access permissions, and independent review of reconciliations.
- Identify and fix process inefficiencies proactively, including opportunities for automation.
What We're Looking For:
- 8+ years of accounting experience with progressive responsibility, in public or corporate accounting.
- Proven experience building and developing accounting teams: hiring, training, delegating, and reviewing work.
- A hands-on mindset: comfortable doing the work yourself and getting into the details.
- Experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidation.
- Solid background in AR/AP and general ledger operations across multiple entities.
- A resourceful, small-business mentality: you take initiative, spot problems before they grow, and find solutions without waiting for direction.
- Quick learner with accounting systems. QuickBooks Online experience is great, and willingness to learn platforms like Rent Manager, Yardi, or Odoo is key.
- Comfortable working in Excel.
- US GAAP experience, commercial real estate experience, and a CPA are all a plus.
- Proficient English level.
- Availability to work Central Time hours.
Perks – What's in It for You?
- Competitive compensation in US dollars.
- 10 days of PTO
- US holidays
- Excellent and dynamic work environment
- Career development opportunities, including growth into leading a full accounting team
