About Us
At Near, we help top talent in Latin America find remote roles with US companies. Our mission is to create better lives by fostering a remote work culture that transcends borders.
About Our Client
Our client is a US-based company with a distributed operational footprint and multiple locations, requiring strong accounting, tax compliance, and financial controls across different jurisdictions. The company manages a range of property-related tax obligations and financial processes and is looking for a senior accounting professional who can take ownership of these responsibilities and work closely with internal and external stakeholders.
About the Role
Join our US client as a Senior Accountant and play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records while ensuring the company stays on top of its tax obligations and compliance requirements.
This is not a traditional Senior Accountant role focused solely on general ledger and month-end close. The position has a strong focus on tax compliance, including property taxes, sales and use taxes, local business taxes, filings, deadlines, notices, and communication with different taxing jurisdictions.
You will also support core accounting activities, financial reporting, reconciliations, audits, and process improvements. This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership, solving complex issues, and working independently.
Note: This is a remote, contractor role.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and monitor the company's tax compliance obligations across different jurisdictions.
Prepare and file unsecured property taxes, sales and use taxes, local business taxes, and business license renewals.
Track tax filing deadlines, notices, documentation, and outstanding compliance items.
Communicate with taxing jurisdictions and draft clear, professional responses to tax-related inquiries and notices.
Investigate and resolve account discrepancies, audit findings, and compliance issues.
Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and month-end close activities.
Perform general ledger, balance sheet, and bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
Support annual audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and requested information.
Maintain accurate accounting records and provide financial analysis and commentary on operating results and budget variances.
Identify and implement improvements to accounting, tax, and financial processes and procedures.

Experience supporting audits and resolving accounting or compliance discrepancies.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines independently.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly when communicating with external stakeholders and tax jurisdictions.
