Our client is a U.S.-based fractional CFO and business management firm that partners with owner-operated businesses across the United States, primarily in the trades industry (electricians, plumbers, painters, contractors, etc.). They provide strategic financial leadership to help business owners better understand their numbers and make informed business decisions.
Overview
We're looking for a Fractional Controller to oversee the month-end close process for a portfolio of approximately 2–6 clients. This role bridges the gap between the Bookkeeper and the CFO, ensuring accurate financial reporting while supporting the CFO with clean financials and actionable information.
Although primarily an internal-facing role, Controllers should be comfortable occasionally interacting with clients when needed.
Responsibilities:
Own the month-end close process.
Review bookkeeping accuracy.
Perform balance sheet reconciliations.
Prepare financial statements.
Maintain accurate workpapers.
Support payroll processing and reconciliations.
Review accrual-based accounting.
Escalate financial risks before deadlines.
Collaborate closely with CFOs.
Requirements
3+ years of accounting experience, ideally as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Accountant with significant month-end close responsibilities.
Experience managing the month-end close for multiple entities or clients.
Strong understanding of accrual-basis accounting.
Advanced QuickBooks Online knowledge.
Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify accounting discrepancies.
Professional English proficiency.
Experience working for outsourced accounting firms.
Experience supporting multiple clients simultaneously.
Gusto experience (preferred, not required).
