Technical SEO and WordPress Developer
Remote | LATAM | Full-time
About Near
Near connects top talent across Latin America with remote opportunities at high-growth U.S. companies.
About the Client
Our client is a leading U.S.-based SEO agency specializing in legal and medical practices and supporting more than 150 clients nationwide. Their team brings together SEO, content, and development professionals to improve website performance, search visibility, and lead generation.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Technical SEO and WordPress Developer with strong hands-on development and technical SEO experience.
This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who can identify technical SEO and website problems, determine the root cause, implement the fix directly, test the result, and confirm the issue has been resolved.
The right candidate will work across technical SEO, WordPress development, front-end troubleshooting, website performance, accessibility, analytics, hosting, and technical quality control.
This is not a role for someone who only runs audits and sends recommendations to a development team. You will have a high level of ownership and autonomy, managing technical issues from investigation through implementation across a large portfolio of client websites.
Responsibilities
- Own technical SEO and WordPress updates across a portfolio of client websites.
- Investigate and resolve crawling, indexing, rendering, canonicalization, duplication, and status code issues.
- Create and troubleshoot redirects, redirect chains, redirect loops, and incorrect server responses.
- Improve website speed and Core Web Vitals, including LCP, INP, and CLS.
- Diagnose JavaScript and CSS issues such as render-blocking resources, unused code, script conflicts, and optimization plugin problems.
- Troubleshoot WordPress themes, plugins, templates, page builders, forms, menus, widgets, and custom functionality.
- Review and correct XML sitemaps, robots.txt files, canonical tags, pagination, schema markup, and internal linking.
- Resolve responsive design, mobile usability, browser compatibility, and layout issues.
- Identify and correct accessibility issues involving headings, forms, labels, keyboard access, contrast, alt text, and ARIA.
- Work with staging environments, backups, DNS, SSL certificates, hosting platforms, caching systems, CDNs, PHP versions, and server settings.
- Support website launches, redesigns, migrations, domain changes, and post-launch quality assurance.
- Troubleshoot Google Search Console indexing, page experience, structured data, coverage, and manual action warnings.
- Implement and test Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, CallRail, form tracking, click tracking, and conversion events.
- Document completed work clearly for SEO, content, account management, and development teams.
- Identify scalable solutions for issues affecting multiple pages or websites.
Must Have
- 6+ years of hands-on WordPress experience involving themes, plugins, templates, page builders, forms, and troubleshooting.
- Strong technical SEO knowledge, including crawling, indexing, rendering, redirects, canonicals, schema, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, status codes, internal linking, and Core Web Vitals.
- Strong working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Practical JavaScript experience, including troubleshooting script conflicts, rendering issues, console errors, and performance problems.
- Working knowledge of PHP and the ability to safely review or modify basic WordPress code.
- Ability to independently resolve routine technical SEO, WordPress, performance, and front-end issues.
- Experience with Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Screaming Frog, Semrush, Ahrefs, Moz, Chrome DevTools, PageSpeed Insights, and Lighthouse.
- Previous experience working for an SEO, web development, or digital marketing agency.
Nice to Have
- Previous experience as a WordPress Developer, Front-End Developer, Technical SEO Specialist, or Web Performance Specialist.
- Experience with Elementor, Oxygen Builder, Gutenberg, Advanced Custom Fields, and custom WordPress templates.
- Familiarity with Cloudflare, WP Rocket, Nitro, Yoast SEO, Rank Math, Gravity Forms, and WordPress caching or security plugins.
- Experience with website migrations, DNS, hosting accounts, databases, server configurations, SSL certificates, and managed WordPress platforms.
- Experience with Google Tag Manager, CallRail, consent tools, analytics scripts, and conversion tracking.
- Knowledge of WCAG standards and hands-on accessibility remediation.
- Experience with website security, malware investigation, Git, command-line tools, regular expressions, or basic SQL.
- Experience supporting legal, medical, dental, financial, or other service-based websites.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is naturally investigative and comfortable working through difficult website problems.
They do not stop after identifying an issue in an audit. They review the website, hosting environment, source code, plugins, server settings, and search engine data until they understand the cause and can implement a reliable solution.
They should be equally comfortable reviewing a Screaming Frog crawl, editing a WordPress template, testing JavaScript in Chrome DevTools, correcting a redirect rule, improving Core Web Vitals, and explaining completed work to a nontechnical team member.
Strong attention to detail is essential because the work directly affects live client websites, organic visibility, website forms, lead tracking, and conversion data.
Why Join
- Take end-to-end ownership of complex technical SEO and WordPress challenges.
- Work with a high level of autonomy and directly implement solutions rather than only making recommendations.
- See the impact of your work across a large portfolio of client websites.
- Work on varied challenges involving SEO, development, performance, accessibility, analytics, and hosting.
- Join an experienced team that values technical expertise, practical problem-solving, and quality execution.
