About the Role:
We’re looking for a Tax Preparer who will support the tax team in a preparer-level role focused on accurate return preparation, data entry, and source document validation. You’ll work closely with the Tax Department Manager of Operations and other tax staff to prepare both individual and entity-level tax returns, apply firm procedures, and clear preparer-level diagnostics before returns move to review. This role requires someone detail-oriented, responsive, self-managed, and comfortable working in a dynamic CPA firm environment.
Note: This is a remote, contractor role.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare individual and entity-level US tax returns through accurate data entry in tax software
Tie and tick client source documents, workpapers, and return line items
Review imported or OCR’d tax data to confirm accuracy before submission for review
Apply firm checklists, procedures, and standard workflows to ensure completeness and consistency
Clear preparer-level diagnostics before returns move to technical review
Work on a mix of individual, corporate, and partnership returns depending on seasonality
Collaborate with tax staff and managers while maintaining strong responsiveness during business hours
Participate in weekly department meetings and contribute process improvement ideas
Manage workload effectively during busy seasons, especially March/April and September/October
What We’re Looking For:
5+ years of experience preparing US tax returns in a CPA firm or similar client-service tax environment
Experience preparing both individual and entity-level returns, including partnerships, S-corps, and corporations
Hands-on experience with US tax software such as ProSystem FX, UltraTax, Lacerte, or similar platforms
Ability to work independently, stay organized, and manage time-sensitive work with accuracy
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Comfortable working full-time with meaningful overlap with a PST-based team (at least 6 hours of overlap with 8-5 PST)
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly responsive
Professional, collaborative, and able to work well with a team
Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and high level of accountability

Compensation range: $2,000 – $3,500 USD per month. Please note that the final salary offer may vary based on the candidate’s seniority, specific skill set, and performance throughout the evaluation and interview process.
