Our client is building in the startup data and signals space, helping growth teams discover new startup customers and helping investors source new opportunities through real-time startup intelligence. Their platform connects directly into customer workflows through APIs, AI services, and native integrations.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to help build the core backend systems behind the company’s product. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys owning technical projects end-to-end and wants to work closely with founders in a fast-moving startup environment. There is a heavy emphasis on building REST APIs from scratch, so this role is ideal for someone who has strong backend fundamentals and enjoys designing, architecting, and shipping customer-facing backend products.

You’ll work on API development, AI-powered backend services, and workflow automation products. The ideal candidate is practical, product-minded, and excited to take ownership in an environment where strong judgment and execution matter.

You Will:

• Build REST APIs from scratch, from architecture and design through implementation and deployment
• Design scalable backend systems to power customer-facing products
• Write optimized SQL queries and backend logic to support filtering, search, and data delivery
• Build and improve AI-powered backend services and microservices
• Develop systems that translate natural language inputs into structured outputs and actions
• Help create workflow automation features that allow customers to build recurring processes using product data
• Partner directly with founders on product and technical decisions
• Ship clean, maintainable, production-ready code in a fast-paced environment

About You:

Your Background:

• Strong backend engineering experience building production systems from scratch

• Strong experience building REST APIs

• Strong skills in TypeScript/Node.js or Python

• Solid experience with SQL and Postgres

• Experience designing backend architecture, data models, and distributed systems

• Understanding of authentication, idempotency, retries, and observability

• Experience deploying production systems in GCP, AWS, or Azure

• Comfortable using modern AI tools to improve development workflows

• Clear communication skills and comfort working in a distributed, English-speaking environment

• You take ownership and like solving problems independently

• You’re comfortable with ambiguity and enjoy working in startup environments

• You care about building maintainable systems, not just shipping fast

Nice to Have:

• Experience with LLM-backed systems, agentic workflows, RAG, structured outputs, or evaluations
• Experience with open-source LLMs
• Experience with workflow engines, search, entity resolution, or complex data products
• Experience with GCP, especially Google Cloud Run
• Experience with React/Next.js
• Familiarity with Supabase, Vercel, Clerk, or Stripe
