At Near
At Near, we help top talent in Latin America find remote roles with US companies. Our mission is to create better lives by fostering a remote work culture that transcends borders.
About the Company
Our client is a growing accounting firm focused on delivering efficient, reliable, and tech-driven financial services. We support U.S.-based clients and prioritize accuracy, compliance, and strong client relationships.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly autonomous Senior Virtual Tax and Accounting Specialist with a strong mix of technical accounting expertise and client management skills. The ideal candidate will possess deep experience handling U.S. business tax returns from start to finish (preparation and review) and a strong background in bookkeeping using QuickBooks Online (QBO).
As a senior member of the team, you will act as a key client-facing resource—comfortably hopping on calls to explain tax and financial details to business owners—while ensuring daily accounting operations run smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Review: Prepare and independently review U.S. business tax returns from start to finish, specifically focusing on Form 1120S (S-Corporations) and Form 1065 (Partnerships).
Client-Facing Communication: Actively manage client relationships by leading Teams/Zoom video calls and handling written communications to clearly explain tax returns, financial statements, and answer client inquiries.
Full-Cycle Bookkeeping: Perform day-to-day bookkeeping and maintain accurate financial records for multiple U.S.-based business clients using QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Financial Oversight & Quality Control: Review financial data for accuracy and compliance, ensuring that client records are continuously audit-ready.
Payroll Support (Trainable): Support or oversee the weekly processing of client payroll and payroll tax compliance, ensuring strict adherence to internal standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Requirements
U.S. Business Tax Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience preparing and reviewing U.S. business tax returns (Form 1120S and Form 1065 required).
Senior-Level Autonomy: Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, taking complete ownership of tasks from start to finish.
Strong Bookkeeping Background: Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO) and standard accounting frameworks.
Excellent Client Management Skills: Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, with the confidence to advise business owners on video calls.
Payroll Knowledge (Nice-to-Have): Prior experience handling payroll processing in QuickBooks is a plus, but the client is highly willing to train an expert tax/bookkeeping professional on their specific payroll SOPs.
Operational Excellence: High attention to detail, strict adherence to client documentation/SOPs, and impeccable responsiveness over communication channels (e.g., Microsoft Teams).
Availability: Ready for full-time work (40 hours/week) during U.S. Eastern Standard Time (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM EST, Monday to Friday, including a 1-hour lunch break).
