A U.S.-based private real estate investment and development firm managing multiple funds is seeking an Accountant. This full-time role is perfect for a detail-oriented and technically strong individual with experience in real estate or fund-based accounting. You'll be a vital part of the finance team, taking ownership of core accounting functions across various active entities and real estate portfolios. Your contributions will be key in ensuring financial accuracy, maintaining compliance, and delivering timely, reliable reporting to support the firm's continued growth.
Responsibilities
- Financial Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate financial records and bookkeeping for multiple entities. This includes performing timely month-end closes, preparing monthly financial summaries, and uploading distributions, investor reports, and tax documents to the investor portal.
- Reconciliations & Audits: Conduct monthly reconciliations for various accounts (bank, loan, reserve, escrow, and company accounts). You'll also audit general ledger accounts, P&L statements, and property sale records.
- Tax & Compliance Support: Support year-end audits and cleanup, coordinate with the CPA for annual tax filings, and prepare and distribute 1099s. Handle year-end transfers and reimbursements.
- Payment & Cash Flow Management: Process vendor payments and investor distributions. This also involves forecasting loan payments, managing shortfalls, and resolving escrow discrepancies, as well as tracking and recovering late fees or refunds from escrow agents and vendors.
- Operational Support & Process Improvement: Maintain payroll tax records, participate in monthly financial meetings, support internal accounting inquiries, and maintain up-to-date SOPs and internal financial playbooks.
Requirements
- Experience: 4+ years of accounting experience.
- Industry Experience: Experience in real estate or investment fund accounting is required.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in QuickBooks Online and Google Sheets/Excel.
- Key Skills: Experience with reconciliations, reporting, and investor workflows.
- Work Style: Detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working remotely.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bonus Points: Experience with investor portals, G-Accon, or escrow tracking.
Working Hours & Location
- Schedule: Full-time position (approximately 40 hours per week), requiring preferred time zone overlap with U.S. Central Time zones.
- Type: 100% remote Full-Time job as a contractor.
