This is a role to work for our client, a software startup from the US.  ​​​​​​We are looking for a Director of Accounting Operations to join our client’s dynamic, mission-driven team. 

Note: this is a remote, contractor role.

Overview

The Director of Accounting Operations is responsible for overseeing the operational accounting functions to ensure accurate and timely generation of financial information to management and other internal/external teams. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded problem solver and is enthusiastic about driving change and reworking processes by collaboratively working with substantially all departments across the overall organization. In this role you will assist and support the Chief Financial Officer with ad hoc inquiries, reporting, and accounting compliance. You will also provide a lead oversight role in the development and maintenance of operational accounting policies and procedures.

Job Duties:

• Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable & billing teams.
• Manage the daily functions of the accounting operations department including cash receipts, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
• Manage the Company’s international accounting process, including collaboration with tax and various other departments (legal, vendor management).
• Oversee procurement process and employee credit cards/expense reimbursement.
• Provide support and oversight for sales and use tax reporting and respective filings collaborating with the tax department.
• Collaborate with treasury, tax, FP&A, business finance and GL  accounting teams to ensure complete and accurate accounting processes.
• Play a key role in the implementation and optimization of systems and processes to ensure accurate and efficient day-to-day processing and month-end close procedures.
• Supervise and develop operational accounting staff, as well as provide training to new and existing staff as needed. 
• Assist in coordinating/providing data to external auditors for audit fieldwork and audited financial statements.
• Develop process improvements and analyze systems and tools to provide more efficient and timely reporting to stakeholders.
• Provide support to other ad hoc accounting/financial projects as needed.
• Partner and collaborate with direct reports, peers, and cross functional business partners to drive change management, lead process improvement and alignment.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field

• Certified Public Accountant, preferred

• 10+ years of related experience, preferably a mix of public and private accounting

• Experience managing people and/or proven leadership ability

• Experience with international accounting, preferred

• General business tax knowledge, preferred

• Strong working knowledge of accounting systems and internal controls

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills

• Proficiency in an ERP and other transactional systems (NetSuite and Salesforce experience a plus)

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills

• Highly organized and effective at managing own deadlines

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Strong people management skills, preferably in remote or hybrid team environment

• Exhibit confidence, ease, and flexibility working in an extremely fast-paced, ever-changing, deadline-driven environment

• Ability to prioritize tasks and strategize.

• Focus on making data-driven decisions
